Set up LogDog

Connect one Discord server to one VRChat group. Complete setup on the dashboard or with /setup in Discord. Both use the same configuration, so you can switch between them without starting over.

Requirements

Requirement Details
Your access Server owner or Administrator. Manage Server alone allows installation, but not configuration.
Your VRChat access Someone who can accept the join request and assign a group role with View Audit Log.
LogDog in Discord View Channels, Send Messages, Embed Links, Attach Files, and Read Message History in log channels. Manage Channels to create channels.
LogDog in VRChat Group membership and View Audit Log.
Plan Free.

Have your group's id (grp_…) or the link from its page on vrchat.com (https://vrchat.com/home/group/grp_…) ready. A vrc.group share link will not work. See the permissions matrix for optional features.

Set up on the dashboard

1. Select your server

Sign in to app.logdog.gg with Discord. Choose your server and follow the installation prompt if LogDog has not joined it yet. Keep the requested permissions selected. Open Setup for that server.

2. Choose your log channels

Under Where should your logs go?, choose a layout:

Layout What it does
Express Creates a LogDog category with #vrc-requests for requests, #vrc-instance for instance activity, and #vrc-group for everything else.
Prebuilt Creates one channel per event category. Deselect categories you do not want.
Custom Uses existing channels. Choose a channel for each category, or leave a category blank to skip it.

Save your choices or create the channels using the button shown. Fix channel-permission warnings before continuing. After setup, Log Routing lets you change channels for whole categories or individual event types.

Check who can read your log channels

LogDog attempts to make new categories private to administrators. If Discord refuses the permission settings, LogDog may create a public category and show a warning. Make that category private before using it for staff logs. Existing channels keep their permissions. Add moderator roles to the channel permissions separately; LogDog feature grants do not make channels visible.

3. Connect your group

Enter the group's id or its vrchat.com page link under VRChat group, then select Connect group. LogDog assigns a VRChat account and requests to join. One group can be connected to only one Discord server, and each server can connect only one group.

4. Accept the account's request in VRChat

Check the account shown in setup. If your group requires approval, accept its join request in VRChat. Waiting alone will not approve it.

If requests are closed, use the account's profile link to invite it manually. LogDog detects when the account joins. Allow up to about 10 minutes for this stage after any required approval; delays can be longer if VRChat is unavailable.

5. Grant audit-log access

Assign that account a group role with View Audit Log. Follow Grant audit-log access for the steps.

LogDog checks access automatically. Allow up to about 20 minutes after granting it for verification. The setup page updates when setup completes. Check now on the setup page asks LogDog to look again straight away.

While setup waits on this step, LogDog checks less often as time passes (every pass for the first hour, then hourly, then daily after a week) and reminds you after 1 day and 7 days, in your setup channel and on the dashboard bell. After 30 days without audit-log access, LogDog leaves the group and returns setup to the group step, with a notice explaining why; your channel settings are kept, and you can connect the group again whenever you are ready. Pressing Check now restarts that clock.

Set up in Discord

Run /setup in a staff channel. Setup messages and progress updates are visible to people who can read that channel.

Choose Express, Prebuilt, or Custom, fix the permission checks, and enter your group. Then accept the VRChat join request and grant audit-log access as described above.

Discord setup also lets you put new channels inside an existing category and choose per-event channels during Custom setup. On the dashboard, configure per-event channels in Log Routing after setup.

Before connecting a group, Restart setup in Discord or Start over on the dashboard resets your channel selections. Once connected, use the configuration pages for changes.

First sync

Logs begin arriving in the channels you selected. On the first sync, LogDog imports available audit history for both Free and Premium servers, subject to import limits. Only a recent selection is posted to Discord—25 events by default—to avoid filling your channels with old messages.

What happens next

Confirm everything is working

Before handing LogDog over to your moderators, check that:

  • Setup is complete. The setup page confirms that the displayed VRChat account joined your group and its audit-log access was verified.
  • Diagnostics has no unresolved access problems for logging. Review Discord channel access and VRChat audit-log access. An unknown status is not confirmation of access.
  • A recent eligible event reaches the right Discord channel. Check VRChat Audit Logs and the configured destination. Allow a few minutes for polling; a quiet group may have no new events. Use No logs arriving if delivery is missing.
  • Your staff can read the intended channels. Check Discord channel permissions separately from LogDog's feature grants, and confirm private staff logs are hidden from members who should not see them.
  • A notification channel is selected. Choose a channel your administrators can read under Settings → Notifications for setup and access-loss notices.

Next, choose which logs to receive, give your staff access, and set a notification channel.

If setup does not advance, check the displayed account, its membership, and its assigned role. See Waiting for the account to join or Waiting for audit-log access for the next checks.
